Russian Internet Roulette: fantastic success of a 17 years old

Chat Roulette Screenshots2

Today I’m going to tell a freshly baked story about a 17-years old founder of something that Internet Guru John Reese called “the internet sensation”.

“The Holy Grail of all Internet fun”, ” the biggest internet sensation since Youtube”, – these are the feedbacks from the Chat Roulette – a video chat, where you can randomly meet face-to-face whoever – variety of people from different parts of the world.  Once you enter the site, your webcam is activated and by pressing the “star” button, you find yourself with a random person staring at you. You have only a few seconds to start voice or voice communication or press the “next” button to see someone else. You can be rejected by several people after they see your face – be prepared that experience in ChatRoulette can be very frustrating.

It doesn’t always has to be a face, so parents, keep away your children from this site – you never know who or what your child can see.

In the interview with John Reese the 17 year old Russian student Andrey Ternovskiy, the founder of ChatRoulette admitted that he did not persuade any business goal by doing it, apart from curiosity and just have some fun by communicating with different people when you get tired of your surroundings. For now, only Google Adsense 4 links cover all expenses of running the service and the possibilities of monetizing the resource is under investigation now. According to Andrey Ternovskiy, he is not sure what exactly ChatRoulette is about, but it’s sudden popularity is fantastically growing, from 300 per day in December to more than 20 000 for now!

Optimize Web Pages for Google Image Search Tips

You can’t imagine how many people still underevaluate the importance of images and traffic from Image Search.

You can be on the third, fourth, whatever page of search results, but with good images you become noticeable to the users even without getting the top rankings.  I used to have to look thought several pages of results to find appropriate images.

So some guidelines from the video:
To fully use the power of Google Search Results, your images should be high quality, large, with clear, descriptive text.

Recently I went to a meeting with a person, that I knew just by e-mail and I had no clue if it’s a man or a woman. I was guessing, when my 12-year old son typed the name in Google Image Search and got the answer immediately…

Twitter over Facebook and once again about importance of social networking

“Follow me” replacing “friend me”?

twitter over facebookFacebook may have recently passed MySpace as the most-visited social networking site in the US, but it’s facing stiff competition for the attention of social media marketers. By some metrics, Twitter is more popular in the marketing world.

Burson-Marsteller, in a July 2009 study of Fortune 100 companies, found that more companies had a presence on Twitter (54%) than on Facebook (29%).

According to the study, which looked at corporate blogs in addition to Twitter and Facebook profiles, about one-fifth of Fortune 100 firms only used one of the three channels. Those companies were overwhelmingly likely to choose Twitter (76%) over Facebook (14%) or blogging (10%).

Companies that used two of the three channels were most likely to have a blog plus a Twitter account (64%).

Burson-Marsteller found that these top companies were using Twitter for several purposes: company news, customer service, marketing promotions and employee recruitment.
Links to both the social networking giant and the microblogging site rocketed in the first half of 2009, but Twitter’s rise has been more dramatic.

Eight Tips to Get The Most from Your Google AdWords Campaign

make money online1. Avoid the biggest mistake of buying highly searched single words.
Choosing a single highly searched word when dealing with Ad Words seems logical, as more searches means more times your ad is showed.

But this puts you in competition with many people which pay a lot for the same words (it doesn’t mean always the right way, but this is the reality). And then ask a question: can a single word entirely represent your product?  Honestly, investing in expensive single words, ,

2. Choose phrases rather than a single word.
When people do a search, they generally search for a product, information, services or solution that can solve their SPECIFIC needs.
You don”t search for “travel”, but will instead search for “travel deal to cuba”. So instead of investing to the very expensive “travel”, even if it is highly searchable, you would rather buy the ad word “travel deal to cuba”. Invest in phrases, not words.

3. Go for Relevancy rather than for frequency.

The most cost effective way you want to display your ad is when it is relevant to the search, don’t you?

When choosing the ad phrase, try to make it looking like a solution or an answer to the people search. For instance, when you do a search, you use words that are familiar to you, and not always proper English, or the correct technical terms are used. For that reason, pay attention on words with potential misuse or spellings errors, and choose different combination of phrases that might be entered, even if they don’t impress you by its significant search volume numbers.

4. Broad your horizons.
OK, you finally decided to invest in “travel deal to cuba”. Don”t limit yourself by only this phrase. Go around and you might find that such combination as “discount flights to cuba”, “cuba all inclusive vacation”, “cuba vacation package deals”, “all inclusive travel to cuba”, “cuba bargain travel”, “caribbean travel deals”, and other phrases that somebody interested in learning more information about would use to search.

5. A step away from the crowd.
As part of your research before going with Google Ad Words, google each word or combination you are considering. You need to check to see:

  • how many ads exists for those words;
  • what pages are shown in the search results.

Ideally is to buy phrases with no or minimum ads – and you will be really standing out with the only of a few ads shown.

If the ad phrase already has several ads, and more ads repeating on the next two pages of the search engine results, you might need to find a better one.

6. Write your ad carefully.
A headline, two lines of text, and a link to your site – seem like not too much to do, but it’s the most important step in your Google Ad Word campaign. The best way to create an effective ad is to see the different examples from other sites. The general rule is that the headline should summarize the benefits of visiting the site, and two text lines should include hot button words that further explain the link. Make sure you ad does not looks like a spam

7. Set a realistic budget.
Set your maximum spending budget per day. If you exceed your budget Google will let you know. if you want to advertise effectively on a very small budget, I would first advise to learn as much as you can about Google Adwords, ideally before you even start. This will help you maximize your results while also avoiding expensive mistakes. I’d suggest starting with the free resources linked to below. It is worth the time its taken.

8. Check the results and act accordingly.
The AdWords Report Center allows you to customize your performance reports and to track and manage multiple facets of your AdWords campaigns. Reporting gives you a sense of where your campaign’s coming from. If your cost per conversion had been running at $100, then it suddenly drops 20% for a few weeks, then a good report will tell you what’s going on. There might be many reasons for loosing money, but unless you know what sort of figures you’ve been obtaining historically, you don’t have any sense of perspective.

Knowing which phrases produce the best results can help you find similar words and phrases to add to your Google list.

Top Affiliated Programs

Now is the time to join a reputable, high-paying affiliate network. The longer the recession looms, the more individuals and businesses will be turning to online sources of revenue. And that means more opportunities for merchants and affiliates alike. There are millions of affiliate marketers working online right now and millions more will be coming online soon.

Affiliate marketing features few if any start-up costs, low barriers to entry, and carries with it the potential for extraordinarily high payouts. Aspiring Web publishers might have the ease of contextual programs like Google’s AdSense, or the hundreds of possible alternatives, but most will ultimately turn to more customizable options.

But do not delay. The only thing you have to fear is…less revenue.

May edition of Website Magazine features 50 of the top affiliate networks on the Internet. Readers are sure to be familiar with many of those listed (either using them currently or having done so in the past) or were exposed to them through the routine course of running a Web business. If the affiliate network you use is absent from this list, fear not; what is really important is the trustworthiness of the network (whether they pay, and pay on time) and the number and quality of merchants and their offers.

As an aside, Website Magazine intentionally left out two heavy hitters in the world of affiliate marketing; Google (and the Google Affiliate Network) and Amazon (Amazon Associates). There are few programs that match these offerings in industry momentum, mindshare and reach. These programs may rule, but it doesn’t mean they’re right for you. You might also notice the absence of contextual networks, PPC search engine ad networks and MLM programs. While there may be a place for those somewhere on a list of ways to generate website revenue, we’ve included only pure-play, first tier affiliate networks — those that cater to both merchants and publishers.

How to find relevant affiliate programs

affiliate-programAffiliate programs are used by large companies and small business owners who reward their affiliates for each visitor/customer brought about by the affiliate’s marketing efforts by offering commissions from 5% to 75%.

When looking for the right affiliate program, apart from reading numerous reviews (if you are able to find independent reviews that you can trust) you have to be completely focused on the subject of your blog . Conduct research and join only those affiliate programs that offer products and/or services matching your blog content. Otherwise it will be a waste of time, regardless of how demanding commissions seem to you.

You can find affiliate programs on any subject. The quickest way to find relevant affiliate programs is to google “your blog’s subject” + “affiliate program”. For example, if your blog is about green style of living, it would be logical to sign up for affiliated program related to organic product.

How to make money on Twitter doing almost nothing

Recently we talked about how to make money with Twitter if you have something to sell or recommend to your readers.

But recently, one Twitter user made lots of money just by using this service.

James Cox opened his Twitter account just to get breaking news from CNN (twitter.com has a possibility to read a microblog via mobile device). It turned out that he was not the only fan of CNN breaking news. For two years his microblog  CNN Twitter account acquired more than 1 millions followers!

Hard to believe, but CNNbrk catching up to Ashton Kutcher (over 1 million subscribers) wasn’t even under CNN’s control until recently.

CNN confirms that it has taken control of the cnnbrk  account — and its followers. CNN didn’t disclose any financial details. Hopefully, they paid James Cox a lot of money for the account he’s nurtured.

No doubt that by adding more links to its site CNN will generate hundreds and hundreds of extra visitors.

The purpose of this article is not just to be envious by lucky CNN news fan. Time to get your niche in the mickoblogs world!

4 Ways to monetize your Twitter account

twitterEveryone seems to like twitter these days which is a really cool way of staying in touch with your friends, family,  colleagues and customers. Basically twitter has presented itself as a micro-blogging platform where a person can share anything he/she wants to the ‘followers’ within the limit of 140 characters.
According to Twitter, “If you aren’t familiar with Twitter, it is one of those things, like MySpace, that sounds totally ridiculous and stupid when you first hear about it. But once you start using it, you realize how much fun it is“.

Well, for online community of money-makers Twitter is interesting as far as it can have some monetizing potential. While some people consider twitter as just a tool to tell others about what they had for dinner, the other guys see it as a real marketing tool. Let me be clear, there is no way to gain direct profit out of exploring twitter. Probably, the best commercial added value of your twittering activity is to use your twitter account to build a community then use that reputation to leverage affiliate sales or a newsletter. I will directly deep into some ideas which can make you benefit from your twitter.

Fist of all, content is a king. Try to create an interesting content before you can even think about trying any of such a promotion. Remember the golden rule of money making web site right keywords + powerful words. is: meaningful content +

The next thing to work on is to attract followers. The greater your network extends, the more people will know about your other blogs or sites and the higher your traffic will become. AFTER you got a good traffic to your resource, you have several money-making option on what to do with that traffic:

1. Sponsored Advertisements

You can run some paid advertising campaign on your twitter account using a service like twittad by following the next steps:

  • First, you need to post your Twitter account for advertisers to purchase
    Select your duration & price
    Wait for advertiser to purchase
Accept or deny the proposed ad within 48 hours of purchase
If you accept the ad, your Twitter API will be used to upload the ad to your Twitter profile
  • Auto ads. There can be a mechanism or a ‘new’ 3rd party service which can actually help you to distribute or Tweet the “Ads” when you are ‘not’ tweeting or say when you are idle. An ad interval can also be set so that your frequent sponsored ads don’t annoy your followers.

2. Direct Advertisement

If a lot of people are following you in ‘twitter’ or in other words if you have a ‘wide reach’ to a large number of twitter users, you can probably look into direct advertisements for monetizing.

  • Recommendation. You can recommend a particular product or service on behalf of your advertisers & peruse your followers to take an ‘action’.
  • Promotion. You can help your advertiser to promote a new product or service to your twitter followers.

It works pretty much like niche marketing because, say if you are interested in car insurance field, it is very likely that most of your followers in Twitter are also from the same area which is why they have ‘followed’ you in the first place.

3. Affiliate Marketing

  • Affiliate links.  If you are recommending a Product or a Service to your followers, you can always embed your affiliate link in your tweet. (e.g. using a service like TinyUrl.com)
  • Sales pages. Instead of taking your followers to another website using your affiliate link, you might just want to promote your own product & services and sell them directly via your landing page.

This is an area where every one can really look into. For instance say when one of your followers is asking for suggestion to choose a web host, you can always suggest him the best one from your experience but at the same time use your affiliate link which can earn you some quick cash.

4. Paid Review

This is pretty much like the direct advertisement, however the only difference would be, instead of blindly suggesting a product or a service to someone, you can actually do some ‘paid reviews’. You can do a paid review about a particular product or service or you may promote someone’s ‘twitter’ account for instance.

Some people may think that all these ‘monetizing’ options can actually turn twitter into an ‘junk’ place and slowly reduce its value. But let’s face it, if you aren’t fully utilizing all the areas of twitter, somebody else will do it. Don’t overdo it, people hate a site with ads everywhere and will only follow that they ‘want’ to follow…
